Justin Bergh is an Assistant Professor of Multimedia Journalism at Black Hills State University. His research interests span documentary filmmaking, critical media studies, cultural studies, food studies, and the political economy of media.

Bergh is also a documentary filmmaker, most recently directing Chasing Tables (2025), which earned multiple international film festival selections and award nominations.

His scholarly work includes articles in the Journal of Folklore Research and Elder Mountain: A Journal of Ozark Studies, as well as contributions to The SAGE Encyclopedia of Food Issues.

As a student media adviser, Bergh launched the award-winning magazines Ponder and Flow. Student media advisees under his leadership have won 30 national awards in the past five years. In addition, Bergh’s work has been recognized with numerous honors, including the South Dakota Board of Regents Award for Academic Excellence, the Black Hills State University College of Liberal Arts Outstanding Advising Award, and the College Media Association Honor Roll Adviser Award.

He earned a PhD in Communication Studies from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, and an M.A. in Communication from the University of Arkansas.
